Miles of Hope and Healing
Bringing families together in life’s hardest moments; restoring hope, honoring love, and bringing peace that lasts forever in the heart.
In our Catholic faith, we are called to uphold the dignity of every human person and to accompany one another, especially in moments of suffering and at the end of life. For many families, this calling is deeply tested when a loved one is incarcerated and terminally ill. Long distances, financial hardship, and the challenges of navigating prison systems often make it impossible to be present during a loved one’s final days. Too often, families are denied the opportunity to offer forgiveness, share prayer, hold a hand, or simply say goodbye.
Miles of Hope and Healing is our response to that need.
Rooted in Christ’s mercy and guided by compassion, this ministry exists to bridge both the physical and emotional distance that separates families during life’s most sacred moments. Through practical assistance and spiritual accompaniment, we help ensure that no one faces the end of life alone and that families are given the gift of presence, comfort, dignity, and peace.
Through your support, we are able to provide:
- Transportation assistance for families traveling long distances
- Lodging for overnight stays
- Meals during travel
- Compassionate support and accompaniment throughout the journey
Every mile traveled is a reminder that love does not end at prison walls. Your generosity helps bring healing, reconciliation, and hope to families when they need it most.
"May the church be the place of God’s mercy and love, where everyone can feel themselves welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live according to the good life of the Gospel. And in order to make others feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged, the church must have open doors so that all might enter. And we must go out of those doors and proclaim the Gospel.” - Pope Francis
"Miles of Hope and Healing is a collaborative initiative of the Diocese of Stockton and Catholic Charities, created to respond to this urgent need".
